As you may or may not have noticed, I have been on self-declared blogger vacation. Full disclosure: a recent job I took on may or may not have been creatively stifling enough to have me in bed as soon as I got home and suspend all things left brained - writing and alternate freelance styling gigs included. Thankfully, I am out of the fashion doldrums and back in action - so let's get right to chatting about one of my all time favorite topics: fashion babies!

As I am sure you heard via The Cut, People StyleWatch and Fashionista this week, Rachel Zoe [who had finally been photographed in the throes of full-blown preggerdom, seen above] and loving husband Rodger Berman welcomed a bouncing baby boy this week, normally and adorably naming him Skyler Morrison Berman. After spending a few moments wondering whether lil Zoe's middle name stemmed from Jim Morrison of The Doors, knowing that the past Dead heads planned to name a daughter Scarlet Begonia after the Grateful Dead hit if they were expecting a girl, I moved on to simply gushing with the rest of America as the new parents tweeted sweet nothings of being in love with their son. So - Mazal Tov Zoe-Berman clan! I love when a good n' lovely Jewish simcha (translation: happy occasion) brings me back from the depths of a deep, self involved creative vacation.

Check out an absolutely adorable picture of Alexander Wang's niece, Aila Wang, who admittedly is far more more stylish than yours truly. Yes America, I have been out-dressed by an infant. She's been spotted for her trendsetting looks before, and The Cut caught up with the now toddler to learn a thing or two about eyewear this weekend. Considering that fashion first fell deep in love with her as she demonstrated that fur, paired with fo-hawks, should never be limited by one's age or size, Skyler Morrison may have just found himself a bride-to-be fresh out da womb.

I'd say it comes time to wrap things up when it dawns on you at age 22 that you are jealously intimidated by a 1.5 year old...

Tavi better watch her back.

Anne Hathaway's Oscar Dresses {a.k.a. The Rachel Zoe Gown Spectacular!}

Oscar host Anne Hathaway blew me away tonight in eight epically perfect costume changes that were absolutely everything and more. She tapped into many aspects of her fashion personality, experimented with color and dazzled with perfect, statement accessories and flawless hair and makeup. But, what viewers at home at times fail to recognize is that all this glamour and genius is truly the masterpiece of the one and only Rachel Zoe, who was backstage styling the statuesque beauty at eight months pregnant. With as many changes as her fetus is months old, Zoe showed stylists [like me] who envy her work and ladies everywhere that when considering work, life, love and luxury - women really can have it all. While I already gave you my Best Dressed for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, I reserved a special post just for Anne Hathaway. I felt it was most fair to keep the two topics separate - had I included Anne's many dresses in my Best Dressed pool, my list would have been eight parts Hathaway.

Let the Rachel Zoe Gown-tacular begin!

Anne started the night walking the carpet in this stunning Valentino gown in his signature Valentino red. Valentino Garavani (the genius himself!) was on the carpet as well to pose with his leading lady.

Anne's first on-stage look was this Givenchy embellished, corseted dress straight off the runway. I cannot really find the words to explain how much I loved this.

While I would have preferred her hair be a bit more relaxed for this Vivienne Westwood gown, I thought the jewelry was perfection and Anne evoked a royalty befitting of the film that swept the Best Actor, Best Picture and Best Director categories.

This metallic tiered fringe, one-shoulder gown was Oscar de la Renta, and right off the runway as well - her effortless "bed-head" was perfect for the fun, flirty nature of the dress. Anne felt so good in it she even did a dance on stage to shake her fringe and consequently, her money maker.

Anne changed into this custom Lanvin tuxedo for her musical number and Rachel paired this AMAZING pair of custom Brian Atwood pumps with the look. I died for this - if you ask me, there is nothing sexier than menswear on a woman. Not only have I have been rocking bowties as of late, I thought this look on Anne was just as sexy, if not more, than her previous feminine gowns.

Anne loved this Atelier Versace number so much she wore it out to the parties following the Awards.

I loved it that much too.

While this dress was originally shown on the Giorgio Armani Prive runway in red, Rachel Zoe does not let a little color change stand in her way. She had it custom made in cobalt blue for tonight and boy what a difference it made. Anne had already had multiple red moments this evening and to see her in such a striking, on-point color for Spring 2011 was a divine, refreshing way to ease viewers into the show's close.

Anne finished off the night in this embellished head-to-toe Tom Ford gown. Why not end the Rachel Zoe gown-tacular with pure, unadulterated fashion!?

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards : Red Carpet Review

It's over [cue tears]! One of my favorite nights of the year has come and gone and left some unreal glamour in its wake. Thus, we have plenty to talk about as those in Los Angeles party hop from Elton John's to Vanity Fair's to The Governor's Ball to Madonna's agent's pad (for a party she co-hosts with Demi Moore). With fashion editors in Milan awaiting Monday's Giorgio Armani show, nobody is in the appropriate time zone to catch New York's Oscar coverage written by all of us who envy everyone out West, and more so - those in Italy enjoying a morning espresso pre-Armani. I am writing this in the hope that at least one of those distinguished editors has an iPad, and in an accidental typo on Google, manages to come across my little blog. Just in case that unlikely occurrence takes place - here are my Best Dressed picks for the 2011 Academy Awards.

Jennifer Lawrence arrived first on the red carpet and set the bar in this smoldering, sleek yet sexy and fresh Calvin Klein Collection look. Major improvement from her past, more experimental looks on the carpet - sometimes, playing it safe pays off!

I love Florence + The Machine and I loved Florence Welch in her lace, flirty Valentino as much as I loved her in a look with a similar vibe at this year's Grammy Awards. While she may not be mixing it up much, this look works and so does her new album - I am listening to Lungs as I write this post!

Acknowledging that this color was stunning on Mila Kunis, I was not sure at first that I loved this look. However, upon further inspection, I realized my initial hesitation was crazy. I loved this look! The peek-a-boo lace on the decolletage and the tiered lace was incredible. Bravo, Elie Saab, bravo!

If there was an award for sexiest couple on the carpet, they would be my only nominees. Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves would win hands down. While they may not have pushed the envelope much in regard to fashion, Camila looked absolutely stunning and Matthew's killer looks never disappoint.

This was the perfect choice for a lady nominated for her song as a Disney princess. A princess gown by Monique Lhuillier it was for Mandy Moore, she looked straight out of a fairy tale with a modern flair, me likey.

I will be completely honest, I have yet to like a single one of [pregnant] Natalie's dresses this Awards Season - until tonight. Her gemstone Rodarte number was an answer to my prayers, perfect for her baby bump and elegant enough to accept an award for Best Actress. Mazal Tov Natalie!

Yet another example of an actress who this season has been a red carpet let-down until this very evening. Michelle Williams in Chanel was perfection. She sparkled in this perfect dress and looked like she was sprinkled with just the right amount of pixie dust - Tinkerbell meets Karl Lagerfeld.

Country singer, Oscar Winner, Best Song Nominee, Best Dressed? Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein was one of my favorites tonight - I could have done without the brooch at the waist but she looked like liquid silver was strategically poured down her perfect body. I also loved her performance at tonight's show, despite the epic bashing it received from my followers and followees on Twitter.

By far the most perfect, fashion-forward, breathtaking red carpet moment for me was Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture. This dress was everything.

Things That Give Me The Chills & How Tonne Goodman Saved My Life

While I was astounded that this season I was able to see shows as absolutely breathtaking as Vera Wang, Naeem Khan (with makeup done by the overwhelmingly talented Kristin Gallegos!) and Michael Kors' 30th anniversary spectacular, I always look forward to Marchesa's presentation, however out of the way and on the West Side Highway it may be...

And so I trekked from the tents at Lincoln Center to 22nd and 11th Avenue to see the museum exhibition that is Marchesa's seasonal Fashion Week presentation. As it was in season's past, Moet flowed by the flute-full and this season, romantic inspirations translated to absolutely stunning confections of lace, feathers and tulle peppered with innovative statement jewelry. Earrings wrapped around ears rather than piercing through them, lace socks accompanied Christian Louboutin shoes and red lace a la Givenchy made a more than welcome appearance. For a fashion curveball, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig included suede and snakeskin pants in this collection, along with some edgier additions in accessories and beauty choices. What made me smile just as much as the upcoming Tonne Goodman story was the designers' inspiration for this season - precisely the same as my beloved Prabal Gurung, but illustrated in a completely different way. Charles Dickens' Great Expectations seemed to be on the mind of fashion industry's greatest talents while sketching this season's looks - according to the ladies of Marchesa, the Havisham-ian idea of "decaying opulence" lead their imaginations to creations that spelled opulence far more than decay - but I guess that's where the edge originated from. If decay is what gets you black crystal encrusted outer-earrings then I'd be more than happy to just sit here and rot. For lack of better words, this collection gave me chills.

Possibly the best part of Marchesa's show occurred before it even began - Vogue Fashion Director, Tonne Goodman, saved my life while W's Editor-in -Chief, Stefano Tonchi, bore witness. Marchesa's presentation takes place in an open loft space, reached by taking an [antique] freight elevator with (if you're as lucky as I was) fellow attendees and some of fashion's latest and greatest editorial names. In my elevator? The aforementioned Goodman and Tonchi, major writer Suzie Menkes and their various gaggles of obedient assistants. I found myself shoulder to shoulder (or rather head to shoulder, her being as tall and elegant as a champagne flute dwarfs me even in my sky-high wedges) with Goodman, one of my ultimate idols. I immediately experienced heart palpitations and shortness of breath - but that wasn't the near death experience she saved me from. As I was about to exit the lift, the always observant editor noticed a major gap between the floor of the space and the elevator floor and warned me and our fellow elevator mates to watch the gap, which seemed the perfect size for my stack six inch heel. Had she not said something, I'd have taken an epic spill in front of her and two other icons from the fashion old school. Phew!

And that my friends, is how Vogue's Fashion Director, saved my life - and me from utter embarrassment.

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards Were Just Kinky Oscar Foreplay

The Grammy Awards took place this past weekend and I will admit, I was a bit unimpressed. Despite the fact that both Nikki Minaj and Florence (of The Machine fame) strutted the carpet in Givenchy Haute Couture while Rihanna looked like Santa's beard was strategically strung around her nude frame in Jean Paul Gaultier, even Katy Perry's addition of angel wings designed by Mother Plucker (are you f***ing kidding me?!) to her Armani Privé number did not make my jaw drop. What did shock me was Lady Gaga's lesson on how long it takes for an egg to hatch. I was admittedly looking forward to a major red carpet moment from her but her EgGaga was surprise enough. Who knew the time between a red carpet and a Grammy performance in Los Angeles is the perfect time and temperature for a baby Gaga to hatch from her egg / womb? I spent the time post Gaga's performance wondering whether there was a private chef backstage cooking up her Hussein Chalayan designed egg into a tasty benedict...God I love brunch.

Oh Mr. Armani, why do you do me this way? I hope that you never again encounter a situation where one of your clients requests an iridescent latex bottomed dress only to accessorize it with Mother Plucker.

On the other end of the fame spectrum, Gwyneth Paltrow's collaborative performance with CeeLo Green (who just happened to be dressed like an LSD inspired Big Bird who thinks muppets are real people) drew my attention to one thing in particular: Gwynnie's body is bangin'! Her well styled performance outfit of an all-black jumpsuit with color blocked booties was perfect to make her stand out against the rainbow bag of skittles going on behind her. While I could have done without the pink feather earrings, I was astounded by how good she looked in a bodysuit.

Cougartown - loves it. Fingers crossed I look exactly like this after two children.

Gwyneth accessorized her sleek bombshell look with Christian Louboutin's Futura color blocked booties.

Academy Awards here we come!

Fashion Week in Review {VDay}

Nothing like spending my least favorite holiday of the year [call me a bitter singleton if you must...] with my one true Valentine, fashion. As cliche as that may sound, it was entirely the case yesterday when I spent the day with my boss shopping for accessory options for a client's star studded Fashion Week magazine party and my evening at Chris Benz and Pamella Rolands' Fashion Week shows.

While Pamella's aesthetic is typically more mass market and adult than my clients typically go, I enjoyed her show's Asian influence and myriad of gowns emblazoned with crystals. However, I can admit that I spent a decent amount of time last night with Chris Benz's ideas for Fall 2011 on the brain. His hats, variety of separates, dedication to luxury and knack for styling made me smile throughout his presentation and into my anti-Valentine's day drinks with friends at a dingy dive bar (the only place we knew we would be free from mushy gushy lovers' dinners). Why Benz has yet to present his collections in a runway show is beyond me - his stellar shoes, the fluidity of his dresses and his fabulous coats would look unreal on the catwalk. Plus, presentations tend to result in hot and bothered models, fainting spells and overwhelming crowds which make it a bit distracting and hard to see his genius work and scope out his impressive celebrity following, i.e. Johnny Weir. Chris, will you be my Valentine?

A pilgrim definitely wore this hat as she entered our fair country way back when...

If he accepts my offer, I'll be wearing this at mine and Chris' Valentine's Day Dinner this time next year.

Fashion Week in Review {Sunday Feb. 13th}

While I'll be sure to keep you posted on my favorite shows of New York Fashion Week once it comes to a close, I thought I'd continue to keep you posted on the shows I attend, as I see them.

Contrary to the days of the myriad of editors who attended DVF, Tory Burch and Tommy Hilfiger this afternoon, I kept my day short and sweet. My boss [note: I assist a celebrity stylist] and I divided and conquered this morning in the 10am slot; she attended Victoria Beckham's old-school presentation (Victoria takes to a microphone and presents her collection to attendees look by look), while I headed to the tents for Derek Lam. Victoria is a go-to for clients who look for sophisticated, top-quality, body-conscious pieces that require little fuss and photograph beautifully. I clearly had it right about Posh from the moment I declared her my favorite Spice Girl in the 90's. Spice up your life!

In Ms. Beckham's house, most pieces are not layered on the catwalk and are instead presented bluntly in their barest form. While she seems to be a new designer from an old school of thought, more nouveau designers like Mr. Lam present styled runway presentations which only get broken down into separates in retail. Derek Lam presented utilitarian pieces with a luxurious twist - jackets were lined with alpaca for a more luxe effect and jackets and tops cut longer in the back evoking a cross between the military trend and tuxedo tails. His show ended with an array of hard meets soft poplin bottomed gowns topped with leather bodices. The shoes in Lam's showing were absolutely amazing - especially a black heel with an ombre wood heel that seemed the perfect daytime staple for next Fall, not to mention the fantastic menswear inspired booties. To sum up, I will be pushing friends, family and clients into both of these collections this time next year. Now, let's get to the eye candy ...

This fur was one of the most stunning pieces I have seen in a while, fur is stunning almost always, but this was of a quality I rarely see. Look how plush and soft it looks even in 2D!

Fashion Week in Review {Part Une}

With half of New York Fashion Week behind us already, I just thought I'd catch you up on my last few days. Hectic as they've been, I secretly love this week more than any other - I am a major sucker for Fall/Winter wear [while sunny weather is always nice, nothing says fashion porn like a truly fantastic coat] and I am not ashamed to admit that sitting in the same space as my icons to view next season's fashions is a sweet combination of dream fulfilling and validating. In short, this week is my crack cocaine - let's get to it, shall we...

I started my week off on Friday, with the always feminine yet star studded Rebecca Taylor. While I am not a Rebecca Taylor girl myself, her collections are always great to keep in mind when planning for a client's press events, appearances and personal wardrobe. She always manages to provide a great amount of separates, perfect for mixing and matching, and her overall aesthetic certainly sets the tone for the softer, less downtown and edgy side of the industry. Inspired it seemed by the repurposing of old fabrics, Taylor presented a collection somewhat indicative of the seasonal trends of wide leg pants, fur, the midi skirt and pops of bold color, but her embellishments at times veered towards gratuitous. To be frank, I did not love her plans for Fall/Winter 2011 as much as I did her Spring collection, but I admire anyone who is bold enough to finish their show with a pair of floral, embellished pants.

Right after Rebecca Taylor, I caught up with Donna Kim for a brief video interview for KMart Fashion, their new blog she's been penning to keep their budget conscious shoppers up to speed with the trends - starting with FW11. I could only chat with her for a minute or two before popping in a cab to HONOR FW11, which later proved wasteful considering I then waited about 45 minutes in the bitter cold along with fellow bloggers, editors, stylists and the stunning Alexa Chung for the show to open its doors and begin. In a twist of fate, my patience was rewarded with a front row seat once the show began and I got a perfect view of HONOR designer, Giovanna Randall's ideas for next season. HONOR FW11 seemed quite inspired by the colors and lightness of the warmer seasons. While on the runway, Randall's FW11 clothes did not look as expensive as they are priced, a recent pull I did for a client's fitting of some of HONOR's Spring looks proved that this is certainly a new designer to look out for in seasons to come.

Fall/Winter goes Summer at HONOR FW11

After what felt like an epically long to-do, I returned back to the tents at Lincoln Center in time for Cynthia Rowley's FW11 showing. While in the past, I have mentally grouped Cynthia in with the likes of Rebecca Taylor, Jill Stuart and other uber feminine designers, her views on next season are certainly more my speed than anything I expected them to be. Her runway design was the first sign of things going my way - a modern yet rustic hardwood runway set the tone for the uptown bohemian collection, which smartly had models crossing the runway's entryway in satin lingerie before emerging dressed and strutting the catwalk. In photographs, her collection unfortunately does not look as luxurious or exciting as it did in person, but it is safe to say that Cynthia Rowley had me pleasantly surprised. While some of the looks were shapes and prints I could have done without, her collection included a few pieces I would wear personally, and was accessorized with killer shoes.

Friday was nothing compared to my stack of shows on Saturday, where I had plans to view Binetti, Jill Stuart, Prabal Gurung, ADAM, Kaelen and later Erin Fetherston, Suno and Pamela Love. Keep in mind, my Fashion Week days as a little blogger and stylist do not even come close to comparing to how editors, top stylists and buyers spend these days. If you think I sound like a busy bee, multiply my day by a ton and there you have their hectic mess of a weekend. I know that long list could have me writing on for far too long, so I will do my best to keep my reviews brief...

Jill Stuart, while similar to Rebecca Taylor in not being my personal style cup of tea, is always fantastic to view and keep top of mind for clients looking for that perfect party dress or the ideal outfit for a dinner date. I always recommend that those I dress try on a Jill Stuart number when they are looking to achieve a bit of Kardashian style va-va-voom. But, similar to her Spring collection, Jill had a mix of silhouettes in her Fall collection which cut away from the body for a more mod effect. With splashes of gold and salmon hued metallics, Jill gave her fans what they were hoping for and presented a leather drop waist dress a la Celine that imbued her collection with a forward thinking sensibility.

After Jill, something amazing happened. I saw a collection whose inspiration and product was so on point with my own fashion obsessions and inspirations that I got as giddy as a schoolgirl. Prabal Gurung's splatter painted pastel runway was the first sign of something good to come. [While I may be all about disheveled downtown meets uptown glam I am a huge sucker for all things abstract and pretty.] Inspired by one of my favorite books of all time, Great Expectations, Prabal evoked images of Dickens' Ms. Havisham in his deconstructed version of his past season's sensibilities. While certain looks evoked a done-up luxury that felt as though it belonged on the Milan runways, other moments nailed his noteworthy inspiration on the head like Karlie Kloss opening the show in a midi-length, voluminous party dress slipping off one shoulder or the graying, disheveled hair styles complete with pastel extensions. All in all, this was certainly the best show I'd seen thus far and stemmed from one of my literary soft-spots. Bravo, Prabal!

For a client who always veers to sophisticated yet body-conscious silhouettes, this is ideal.

Will we be seeing this at this month's Oscars?

After a quick salad at P.J. Clarke's, it was time for ADAM, inspired by native imagery of American Indians, Adam Lippes' collection definitely looks luxurious in photographs and in person and included splashes of utilitarian plaids amidst soft lace tops and fur coats.

After ADAM, a trip to the meatpacking district to view Kaelen FW11 was on the agenda, and I loved her wearable, downtown pieces and fantastic hairstyles - corn rows on one side, side undone braid on the other. I finished off the night at MAC & Milk, where I viewed the 8th floor's veritable flea market of shows - Suno, Erin Fetherston, Pamela Love and Billy Reid. I fell in love at Suno - first with their phenomenal shoes and then with the tribal inspired separates that infused color into a sense of downtown cool. Oh dear Suno, I will definitely be hunting some of your pieces down for my very own.

Erin Fetherston was, admittedly, quite hard to view due to the overwhelming crowds and structure of the presentation, but what I saw was certainly a bit edgier than Erin's typical voice - i.e. her sequin slouchy trousers a la 3.1 Phillip Lim. Pamela Love delivered insanely innovative, Blair Witch inspired accessories that could double as weapons of not used responsibly. I fell in love with her cuffs and bangles and watched from a distance as Becka Diamond bravely sported the largest bracelet of all time that likely would have taken my eye out if I got any closer. Although it was a madhouse in Milk last night, the showing designers certainly held up to the expectations of the thousands of guests in attendance, some of whom were simply stopping over on their way to Altuzarra, which happened later that night.

And that was just three days worth of shows! More to come - Derek Lam, Victoria Beckham, Vera Wang and more - even those shows I [sadly] did not and will not be attending myself.

You Know Her, You Love Her: Style Lessons From The Man Repeller

While most of you know Leandra Medine as the hilariously sarcastic blogger that claims to repel men with her adorable street style and penis puns, I know her as the well dressed success story that emerged from the class behind me in our small, Upper East Side Yeshiva high school. While our strict dress code of skirts below the knee was certainly a quick and easy way to deter men from ever wanting to find out what lurked beneath our half-mumus, Leandra has taken it a step further and has turned her blog into an aspirational style guide that I frequently visit for inspiration - and you should too. Her print mixing, layering and conceptual excessorizing create looks that turn me on like no other, otherwise known as one serious "lady boner". Leandra's post on print mixing really got me thinking and was by far my favorite post yet. Mixing a bold Pucci print with a geometric printed skirt, bold red bow-tie, fur cuffs and a hoilday themed Rag & Bone cropped sweater was pure, unadulterated fashion porn. Major man repeller, instant style seduction.

This gives me the urge to dress up like the female PeeWee Herman all the time - this impersonation is repelling men right and left, probably because it's so dead on. While I would wear this any day, anywhere, PeeWee's spastic, freaky smile always scared me as a kid... more of a people repeller than a man repeller - snag the style, skip the smile.

Despite the fact that this event is most likely be taking place in the well-decorated banquet hall of my imagination, it will likely be postponed until the year I can afford and track down the ensemble perfect enough to host such an intimidating affair. Red Carpet Re-Cap: The 2011 SAG Awards

Just when we think there won't be enough red carpet action to keep our juices flowing between the Golden Globes and The Academy Awards, The SAG's pop-up to keep things interesting (which will be followed by the always forgotten BAFTA's) before we dig into this years main event hosted by the ever-lovely, Rachel Zoe styled Anne Hathaway and the contractually bound Gucci spokesman, James Franco. There seemed to be less stars in attendance at this red carpet so let's keep this Best Dressed list as brief as the SAG Awards ceremony and just do it to it.

I loved this dress on January Jones which took her out of her typical Versace, va-va-voom contract for just one night. She seemed a perfect modernization of her look on Mad Men in this stunning lace Carolina Herrera while still exuding elegance and sex appeal.

Ah yes, Oscar de la Renta on Lea Michele (where oh where have I seen this duo before...yawn). This time, Lea opted for a sexier, less poof infused spaghetti strapped number which highlighted how teeny tiny working in L.A. has made her. Nonetheless, she looks stunning.

All hail dresses that are age appropriate! Nominee Hailee Steinfeld looked adorable and fresh in this Prada dress that flattered her budding assets while not aging her in the slightest.

Apparently this Louis Vuitton embroidered, hand stitched gown took seamstresses 100 hours to make for Claire Danes - and it certainly paid off. While I regret not including her statuesque Calvin Klein Golden Globes look on my Best Dressed List weeks ago, I certainly could not pass her up this time around. Hers was certainly one of my favorite dresses of the night, although I wished her hair had been coiffed in a slightly more tousled and effortless style.

While she has been on the receiving end of many awards over the past few years, Best Dressed has never been an honor bestowed on the hilarious Tina Fey. While I must admit that over the years she has never been one to impress on the red carpet, she made my jaw drop this evening in a delicately cut lace Oscar de la Renta dress. This, Tina, is what it feels like to be on the fashion industry's good side.

While I admittedly do not watch Glee and assume that every and any actress I do not recognize on the red carpet must be a cast member on the show, I could not help but notice Dianna Agron these past couple of awards shows as she continues to impress on the fashion front. Here she is impressing in Chanel Haute Couture. I may not be a gleek, but she looks absolutely divine.

There was no question that Mila Kunis was one, if not the, best dressed of the evening at the SAG's. She smoldered in Alexander McQueen and looked as effortless and fresh as I wished she had at the Globes. Let this soft, youthful trend continue for her on the upcoming carpets! (fingers crossed...)

Fashgasm: Theyskens' Theory

My heart skipped a beat earlier this week when it set in that Olivier Theysken's first collection for Theory would land itself in stores this weekend. Being that the entire collection in its smallest size is currently on hold for a client of mine (fingers crossed that a million teeny tiny people do not need the pieces before our scheduled fitting!) I thought I would spend my time ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the pieces online before seeing them in person. Predominantly black and white with subtle pops of rich color, Olivier Theyskens' Theory is clearly a mass market interpretation from a man whose career has consisted of honors as immense as designing couture for the renowned houses of Rochas and most recently Nina Ricci. After Peter Copping from Louis Vuitton took over creative direction of Nina Ricci in 2009, Theyskens officially became artistic director for the more affordable Theory as of October 25, 2010. This marks his first capsule collection for the brand and Fall 2011 will be the first season in which all Theory looks will be entirely Theyskens. Here are some pieces I have been drooling over. OH! And the shoes! My god, the shoes...

Now that every inch of me is tingling with excitement over how "me" these hefty wedges are, we can move on to what Theyskens' will have us putting on from the ankles up... despite the fact that I would pair the above posted foot-candy with my birthday suit and be satisfied...

Red Carpet Re-Cap: The 2011 Golden Globes

If the Oscars are the Superbowl of red carpets, tonight was certainly the World Series...or just one big Hollywood tailgate. With all the booze flowing, The Golden Globes certainly promise much fun for all the attendees and tons of fashion juice to keep me going until ready-to-wear Fashion Weeks commence. Since I do not do worst dressed lists as I assume you can infer that whoever doesn't make my Best Dressed List likely falls under "nothing special" or "what on Earth was she thinking?!" I say we get to the dresses. After all, I have been sipping on my wine for as long as Ricky Gervais has been chugging his...

While Angelina Jolie's beauty is certainly breathtaking, I never seem to find any of her red carpet choices to be. Tonight, however, things took a turn for the amazing when she showed up in the color and silhouette of the evening in the form of this long sleeved, high waisted Atelier Versace sparkling stunner. Simply put, Angie looks like a tall drink of water, with or without her best accessory (read: Brad). Even more fabulous? I, along with my viewing party, spotted her reapplying lip gloss during the ceremony - stars really are just like us!

Speaking of those whose red carpet choices I typically categorize as morally and stylistically repugnant, Leighton Meester graced the carpet this evening looking fresh, sophisticated, appropriate and ladylike in this Burberry Prorsum number paired with Jimmy Choo shoes and a Louis Vuitton bag. I loved this - I thought she looked incredibly sweet, elegant and fashion forward. Her choice of something utterly chic yet not over the top was the best way to draw just the right amount of attention to herself, while not hogging the spotlight in order to respect those presenting and nominated.

There is never a surprise as to who Lea Michele will be sporting - as always, Oscar de la Renta dressed the starlet for the carpet. This time, he kept to his theme of award shows past and created another full-skirted option for the the Glee star to feel like a pretty pretty princess. Considering she was nominated, an eye catching ball gown was not out of order. However, I felt that the color chosen for the dress in the fabric used cheapened the workmanship of the cascading silhouette. Sorry Gleeks, but please don't hate me for wishing this dress had been done in black or a more rich, luxe gem tone.

I do not know what I love more on Sofia Vergara, her Vera Wang dress or her fantastic Columbian accent. While I was upset that her choice to opt for a designer other than Carolina Herrera had her using far less rolling R's each time she was asked who she was wearing, I thought this sleek, red-hot number hugged her in all the right places. While the back of the dress involved rivets and corseted detailing I could have done without, I thought this was perfectly appropriate for a way too sexy nominee.

This deep emerald hue was certainly the color of the evening and paired with Mila's complexion, set against the bright red of the carpet, she looks beautiful. While I was not a huge fan of the dress' lack of effortlessness despite its evoking a Grecian sensibility or her hairstyle choice, I thought Mila looked stunning for her big night as a nominee in this Vera Wang number. As for hair, I wish she had chosen a chignon or gone with hair down - I wasn't too pleased with how the height of this 'do made her face look a bit longer than it really is.

While I loved this frothy chocolate Marchesa gown on Olivia Wilde, I definitely found it far too attention drawing for a celebrity who wasn't one of the evening's nominees. I wish she had plut her hair up but I was just about ready to let that fact slide in favor of how stunning she looked, until I saw what lurked beneath the silver sparkled confection...

As much as she clearly loves them, why a stylist or a sane human being would pair such an elegant gown with gold bedazzled Christian Louboutin booties is beyond me. Not only did they completely negate the airy, delicate nature of her dress but they were just downright wrong for the event and the overall look.

I loved this Jenny Packham dress on Sandra Bullock and loved her blunt bangs just as much. However, I definitely thought the hairstyle needed work, I would have loved to see her in a sleek ponytail rather than this flat ironed bedhead. Nonetheless, I want to be her when I grow up.

When your previously ill husband gets a clean bill of health only days before presenting the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Drama, you are entitled to celebrate. And, such a celebration calls for a fantastic dress, fit for a life event bigger than the awards themselves. Catherine Zeta Jones looked radiant in this Monique Lhuillier gown that popped against the carpet and her luscious brunette locks. Next to her healthy husband, Zeta Jones looked like a proud wife and true Hollywood royalty.

Not only am I obsessed with her movie Easy A, but I cannot stop gawking at how sophisticated and downright stunning Emma Stone looked in Calvin Klein Collection. While her nomination stemmed from her portrayal of a slutty high school student, Stone was anything but in this body-con stunner that certainly has me taking her seriously despite her consistent comedic performances. Fun fact: word has it, platinum is the star's natural hair color, which she returned to prior to her red-hot dye job for Easy A. I am in love with this look.

A client of red carpet maven, Rachel Zoe, Anne Hathaway looked amazing, refined and sexy in this Armani Privé sequined dress. This dress looks like liquid sparkle was strategically poured down her phenomenal frame and in my mind, is nothing short of fantastic and forward thinking. I am sure this is just an exciting indication of how stunning Hathaway promises to look as she hosts the Academy Awards with James Franco. Thanks for the jaw drop Team Zoe!

Now that this has my awards season juices flowing... looking forward to the many red carpets to come!

My Imaginary Apartment

I do not live in my dream apartment. However, one of my new blog obsessions, Delight by Design, has certainly had me giving much thought to what it would look like if I did. Photographs (also known as images from my favorite editorials), piles of magazines, candles in metallic holders and my accessories providing color to a clean, white space with wood flooring and a fur rug. A modern metallic coffee table, a vintage library filing system to house my collection of fashion newspaper articles my grandfather has pulled for me over the years, relaxed and comfortable yet full of clean lines. Luxurious fabrics serving as window treatments and throws will hopefully provide warmth to my contemporary space. Just thought I'd share some of the images I have been oohing and aahing at lately.

Enough Said.

These chairs are unreal. They evoke the same certain something that the chairs in the Bergdorf Goodman restaurant do. Considering that amazing space was designed by Kelly Wearstler, I'm thinking I need to own something of this sort for my own dream space.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I envisioned books, magazines, trinkets and photographs providing color to a white, clean space.

Not sure what it is, but there is certainly something warm and inviting about this cooler hued, clean space. Perhaps its the distressed nature of the leather on the chairs? Can't quite put my finger on it - but I like it.

And sometimes I think - screw white. This teal color is absolutely stunning. Could anything be more luxurious and rich than that deep, plush tone? Plus, something as simple as wall painting is a recession proof way to add substance to a seemingly empty space lacking in decor.

But then again, I always knew white and beige were color enough to fill a space and make it feel inviting, chic and sophisticated.

Simple, a pop of bold color, fur, wood and the the juxtaposition of the fireplace and candles with the stark lines of the furniture - YES! YES! YES!

And that's just what I've been daydreaming about as of late.

Pre-Fall : Fashion Foreplay

If Fashion Week is the ultimate in fashion porn, Pre-Fall is certainly mind blowing foreplay. While it is by far the most disappointing title for a season, as the brilliantly hilarious Michael Kors said right before his showing, "'Pre' [as in Pre-Fall] is disgusting. Everyone knows now that resort is important, but because the name 'pre-fall' is so ugly, no one wants to acknowledge that these are the clothes you actually put in your closet." As ugly as its name may be, the clothing was anything but and Pre-Fall may just be my favorite mythical season, considering that in real life, the time before a season is titled simply by the season prior. Pre-Fall promises much suiting and menswear inspired pieces laden with fur, bold pops of color and surprising feminine incorporations. I took a look through said foreplay during the snowfall and my re-viewing session of the fourth season of Sex and the City. Carrie just vomited after seeing the disgusting engagement ring Aiden picked out for her. My how things have changed for Mr. John James Preston...

SNEAK PEEK: Rachel Zoe's New Line

Rachel Zoe's contemporary line debuted on the same day as the sex of her baby. Turns out, Zoe will not be handing down her archive of vintage Lanvin and Chanel to her own offspring anytime soon as she is expecting a bouncing baby boy. Much mazal to her and hubby Rodger Berman who will finally have a little partner in crime and even more mazal for the debut of what promises to be an exciting, cohesive collection full of one of my absolute favorite things - newness. This time, newness is peppered with the 70's and killer accessories to deliver a collection said to be competition with the likes of Alexander Wang and Diane Von Furstenberg. Whoever said this may just have been dropped on the head as there seems to be little body conscious, urban jungle, neo jock inspiration in Zoe's line. Her price point may put her on the same floor of Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman as her aforementioned supposed competitors but from the looks of her lookbook, it seems as though she'll be competing with someone as vintage minded yet forward thinking as Phillip Lim.

The line is said to include much suiting, including a jumpsuit inspired by the classic le smoking as well as accessories that mirror the fabulous Zoe aesthetic like matte crocodile pumps with a major platform, handbags, riding boots and even flats. Zoe will be planning a show to launch her collection but will be missing the upcoming New York shows in February to follow doctor's orders to take it easy. That seems a perfectly easy way to slow down her infamously busy schedule that still includes filming the fourth season of The Rachel Zoe Project and dressing the host of The 2011 Academy Awards and long time client, Anne Hathaway in what will be her eighth month of pregnancy. That makes sense - if I had all that on my plate I'd also think the natural thing to cut out would be sitting and taking in some damn good fashion porn. At least pregnancy has not changed the fast-paced, non-stop Zoe we've come to know and love - she admitted to WWD that she hasn't even had time to shop for baby clothes yet!

My Feet Hurt

Flat shoes make me feel like a hot mess. They are the quick and easy way to ensure I feel sloppy, underdressed and nowhere near sexy (as though I, Carrie Goldberg, with my oversized sweaters and piles of accessories was ever feeling that way to begin with). As you may have read in 2009, I once discovered femininity in the flat when I purchased a darling pair of suede, patent tipped Repettos, which have now taken their last breath and suffered a terrible blow to the sole. I am now living life 4.5 to 7 inches taller than I actually am on a daily basis, and while I typically prefer to be walking tall, looking down on even those who know I'm secretly only 5''3, my feet hurt.

I've been desperately scouring the shoposphere for flats to keep me down to earth without looking like a bum. While most may call me crazy when I comment that anything below 4.5 inches makes me feel stumpy and like one of Santa's elves, something's telling me that sporting one of these could be the ticket to feeling as put together as can be at my natural height.

The Perfect Dress Does Not Exist

I cannot stomach the millions of articles that flood my inbox about THE PERFECT DRESS for New Years Eve. Here are the requirements according to each and every fashion editor and blogger who has crammed their thoughts and suggestions into my smartphone: it must be covered in sparkle, incredibly short, preferably one-shouldered, ideally 'ruched' in one place or another. As the lovely Leandra of The Man Repeller would call such a body condom, a man-getter. Such garments are designed (likely by the fashionably confused Max Azria for Hervé Leger) to ensure you score far more than a kiss at the stroke of midnight. While I would be more than happy to end up smooching at 12:00am, if I wore such a dress, you'd be more likely to find me hiding in a closet, fashioning a toga to cover my overly exposed body.

I refuse to hunt down, purchase and then wear said "perfect" dress. I do not shop at Bebe, nor do I own anything one shouldered. I live for sparkle and glamour, but would rather ring in the New Year with a glass of champagne in hand looking like myself and not a translucent skinned Kim Kardashian wannabe. And so, here is what I am suggesting for all you ladies looking to stay warm, stay sparkle-y and not look like a crazed hot mess busting out of bedazzled saran wrap.

Introducing the Club Monaco Holly Dress. To me, this is the perfect New Years confection. Ditch the scarf, top it off with a cocktail, fur stole or fur vest, some great accessories and a great pair of shoes and you've got my "perfect dress for NYE". Being that we can't always get what we want, I doubt I will actually ring in the New Year wearing this delicious floor-lengthed number, but I can surely guarantee that I will not be toasting to 2011 dressed as Kim's newest sister, Karrie Kardashian.

This major splurge is definitely not something to be used daily, or even weekly, but would be absolutely amazing when paired with a little black dress for a dinner date or a night out with the girls. These shy-high grey flannel wonders would pair perfectly with the colors and textures of my winter neutrals and would look darling paired with a dress and knit socks or with a basic pair of slim fitting jeans. Despite their looking like torture devices, I'd venture to say that when applied, they truly are quite comfortable and ergonomic. After living in Paris for six months, I am convinced it is by far the most romantic and magical place on Earth and anything that can evoke memories and feelings of my time there holds a permanent spot on my wish list. One of my favorite places to spend time with friends was at Ladurée, the famed macaron house, where I always placed the same order: a pot of their Marie Antoinette blend tea and four petit macarons: violet-cassis, pistache, framboise (raspberry) and chocolat. These candles infused with the smells of strawberry and brioche bring me back to the stunning atmosphere of their cafe on Rue Royale in Paris, all in the comfort of my New York City apartment.

This piece would definitely compliment any and every of my day to day looks.

As an insomniac, I am always in search of tricks to keep me calm, comfortable and comatose for as long as possible. Once I doze off I am out like a light and capable of staying asleep for hours on end, but getting to bed is typically a challenge with the thoughts of the day and plans for tomorrow zipping through my mind. Traveling poses a whole new set of problems, as I find it unbearably difficult to zone out and pass out on an airplane. An Interview with Makeup Artist Kristin Gallegos [by Terence Edgerson]

As a stylist and writer, I am lucky enough to get to meet a variety of talented, interesting and inspiring individuals in the oddest of places. I met my first and newest contributor, Terence Edgerson, in my favorite downtown coffee shop and we have remained friends ever since. Terence has a blogging background of his own, so I enlisted him to write a killer piece for the newly URL'ed This Is MPC. He got to work and got to talking with the overwhelmingly talented, smokey eyed Kristin Gallegos. Kristin has done makeup for everyone from Vogue to Elle and has shot with acclaimed photographers, including some my personal favorites, Annie Leibovitz and Patrick Demarchelier. After working with the best and with plans to continue growing, learning, traveling and face painting, Kristin was nice enough to take the time to chat with Terence about what inspires her, her dream jobs and her product hoarding.

Terence Edgerson for Mes Petits Choux: Where are you from? Where do you live?

Kristin Gallegos: I'm from Long Beach, California. I'm sure you guessed I was a California girl – it’s so obvious! I have been living in New York for six years now, its crazy how time flies! I have been living on the Lower East Side for five years and even though it gets crazy, I still love it down there.

TE for MPC: Why did you move? What attracted you to New York from the West Coast?

KG: New York is such an incredible place to live. There's so much opportunity here and so much to do - it never gets boring! I also love that there's such a mix of people here from all over the world.

TE for MPC: What are your true passions?

KG: My first passion was ballet and it is still a part of my life. I try to go see performances every season and on a rare occasion, I’ll take a ballet class. Now doing makeup is my passion. I love creating art on faces and I love making people look beautiful and interesting.

TE for MPC: I know you’ve already made a big move cross country but if you could live anywhere in the world where would you move to?

KG: New York City is my favorite city in the world, and I have done a good amount of traveling. But if I absolutely had to move elsewhere I would move to Paris. Paris is a beautiful city with so much history and the fashion there is truly unmatched.

TE for MPC: How do you feel about New York fashion and street style in the city?

KG: Style in New York can be really amazing. There's a small group of people here that REALLY know how to turn it out. But, for my taste, the fashion here can be a bit conservative on the whole. I personally prefer European based designers but I do appreciate the talent that comes out of New York. You can still basically get away with wearing anything here, not to say that people won't stare…but isn't that kind of the point?

TE for MPC: What has been the highlight in your career thus far if you had to name one? What would you say has been your golden moment?

KG: There have been so many amazing moments! I got the chance to shoot with the legendary David Bailey a few years ago, which was surreal! And, getting the opportunity to shoot with Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, and Arthur Elgort this past year was incredible.

TE for MPC: How would you describe your personal style?

KG: My style has been called “luxury goth,” which I find amusing. My personal style is very dark. I wear mostly black, love interesting shapes and silhouettes and I'm rarely ever seen without black eyeliner. My hairstyle is definitely modern 60’s but I'm obsessed with the 60’s and the 90’s so I pull inspiration from those eras.

TE for MPC: What else inspires you?

KG: I am inspired by so many things…I grab inspiration from icons of the past, the 60's especially. Women like Edie Sedgwick, Jane Birkin, Penelope Tree, Anna Karina, Anita Pallenberg, and Marianne Faithfull, and other icons like Siouxsie Sioux, Mick Jagger, Patti Smith, and David Bowie - the list can go on and on. Music, films, art and pop culture inspire my work and my personal style on a daily basis. When I'm doing makeup the person I am making up tends to be the main source of my inspiration. I work very organically; I have an idea of what the end result will be when I start my work but as I near the end, it usually turns into something else – like a painting!

TE for MPC: What was your favorite shoot you ever worked on?

KG: There have been a lot of amazing shoots in my career but if I had to pick one I would say the Urban Outfitters shoot I did in Tokyo. It was an incredible trip and the overall experience makes it one of my favorites. Japan is so amazing and on top of getting to shoot in Tokyo, we got to shoot in Shimoda on the beach. We spent Halloween night in a real cave that was made into a bar on the beach - it was so epic and I am dying to go back!

TE for MPC: What are your go-to brands for products? Skincare?

KG: I use a WIDE range of products and have tons of different favorites from different brands. I love MAC, Make Up Forever, NARS, Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Armani, Chanel, Kevin Aucoin, YSL, Le Metier de Beaute, and Becca for cosmetics. I'm obsessed with skincare and use a lot of French pharmacy brands like Bioderma, Embriolisse, Vichy, and La Roche Posay. I also love Jurlique, La Mer, Dermalogica, Shu Uemura, and Klorane. I am a major product junky!

TE for MPC: Do you prefer to do dramatic makeup or do you believe good work is all in the subtleties?

KG: I honestly love doing it all! I love doing crazy and dramatic makeup because I get to do something interesting and think outside of the box. But, that being said, I also love subtlety. As I’m sure I’ve said before, I'm obsessed with skin, and enhancing the skin and a person’s features can take just as much skill as doing a crazy, editorial look. It really all depends on the job at hand but that's the beauty of what I do – it’s different every day!

TE for MPC: What tips can you give those who do not have the luxury of having you in their homes each morning? And, as someone who has always strove to make your dreams a reality, what advice can you give to those striving for dream careers in the big city?

KG: My general advice would definitely be to always have confidence in yourself and not let others get you down. No matter what, confidence is so attractive! Don’t be afraid to take risks, especially when it comes to following your dreams. As for makeup tips, less is more! If you have beautiful skin there is no need to cover it up, just spot treat blemishes with concealer. I find that too many women wear too much makeup unnecessarily. Subtle enhancements on the face are always best. Obviously, there are exceptions to these rules - the best part of doing makeup is that there are no rules!

TE for MPC: Is there anyone, any fashion show, any project that you would kill to do makeup for?

KG: I would love to do makeup for a Rick Owens show! He is my favorite designer and it would be a dream to collaborate with him. It would also love to work on a Givenchy campaign and do a cover of Parisian Vogue.

TE for MPC: Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Ten years?

KG: I hope to have a cosmetics/beauty artist contract and to be working on incredible projects and traveling the world. Ideally, I would like to have homes in both New York and Paris with a long term boyfriend...maybe even a husband?!

If the past few years are any indication of Kristin's ability to turn her dreams into realities, we have no doubts that within five years she and her work will continue to pop up in our favorite fashion editorials, style blogs and runway shows. If we are lucky enough to chat with her for a follow up interview amidst all the work she is likely to garner from her artist contract, we'd like to request it take place in her second home in Paris, since we'd love to meet the man who'll be lucky enough to be living there with her.

Drink Me : Creative Cocktails

I am the first to admit that unless I am seriously ill or have a major styling job the next morning, I will never say no to a creative cocktail. While most find that wine is their go-to calming beverage of choice, a glass of wine tends to make me as giddy as a schoolgirl, while a perfectly shaken cocktail is more likely to help me find my xi and place of zen. Although my immediate choice is typically a dry n' filthy martini (gin, tons of olives), a margarita, or a moscow mule (vodka, ginger beer, lime juice), I have recently discovered some incredibly creative things to sip on that made me abandon my staple drinks for their artful take on flavor combinations. This may or may not have to do with my recent addiction to the Food Network show, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, but this is my drunken version. I thought I would take the time to share my top three favorite liquor laced treats with you, tell you what's in them and where to drink them. Off we go on the train to boozeville...

1. The Evidence

At one of my favorite (secret until now, and until Jeffrey Steingarten raved about them in October's Vogue) tucked away speakeasies in Manhattan, Angel's Share, artfully cut ice and insane syrups like their house-made "dragon's tears" are used to create delicate flavors and innovative combinations. In a setting that looks like Agatha Christie's Orient Express, customers pick their delicious poison off a menu as thick as an encyclopedia and categorized by liquor. At Angel's Share, each drink is perfectly assembled with not only an understanding of layering flavor but with ice that is carved to not dilute their beverages. My personal favorite on this menu, despite the smokey bacon beverage I sampled last time I was there, is the Evidence. Part earl grey vodka, part fresh ginger ale and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice served over ice, this is by far one of the best cocktails I have ever had. The perfect accompaniment to this drink? The fresh sashimi served bar side, sliced to perfection.

2. The Caviar Martini

Recently, my dear friend Amaya Maurie of The Cool Kid List suggested I accompany her and our dear friend and drinking buddy Savannah to Pravda, an underground caviar bar in Soho, for their happy hour. Their daily deal is, in essence, "you buy your friend a drink, we buy you a drink," and so the three of us wasted no time generously purchasing drinks for one another. I started out with my signature Moscow Mule, while Amaya opted for a Cinnamon Apple cocktail and Savannah a Rosemary Martini. My second round, however, was surprisingly refreshing, irresistibly savory and utterly delicious. I am a caviar freak; my favorite family dinner I have ever eaten was definitely a caviar, cured salmon and champagne dinner my grandparents gifted to me in the comfort of their home. When I noticed caviar in a cocktail on the Pravda menu, it wasn't hard to convince me to take the plunge and place the order. Basically, the Caviar Martini is a light appetizer in a glass. Vodka, cucumber, dill and a spoon of caviar resting at the base of the glass is the simple yet balanced combo that had me feeling refined, borderline bourgeois and pretty damn Russian. For a few minutes, I was the Natalia Vodianova of Lower Manhattan.

3. The Jacked Up Lantern

While creative and accessorized cocktails are stereotypically feminine, I discovered my last intoxicated indulgence sipping at a bar meant mostly for men. The Blind Barber, which recently opened in Alphabet City is an old school barbershop in front and a sartorial bar in the back, where Sweeny Todd, the old days of Jazz and downright style meet for great music, great drinks and a great hair cut. I should know - my dear friend Gogy Esparza is their Creative Director and Head Barber, keeping men across the East Village looking fresh and sipping happy. On my most recent visit to Blind Barber, I gleefully asked the bartender what the seasonal drink on the menu was for my darling Autumn. On my first visit, I sampled the summer cocktail - the lemongrass basil martini - and so I was on hair pins and scrunchies to hear what was pouring, and even more juiced when I heard the words "Jacked Up Lantern." My guess is that the drool on my chin and glaze in my googly eyes signaled the bartender to start shakin'. Before I knew it I had a gin, Grand Marnier, pumpkin and lemon juice cocktail nuzzled in the palm of my hand. It was as fabulous as Gogy's sexy downtown haircuts and undeniably delicious.

MPC Loves : Raphael Young

Nothing gets me more excited than a designer I have never heard of. I am a sucker for the new, the undiscovered and the up and coming. When a fashion savvy friend turns me on to a new talent that I can use in my closet and for my clients, its as good as Christmas morning (well, Hannukah morning...). Such an exciting moment came recently over time spent with one of my favorite fashion PR mavens and designer of up-and-coming accessory line Katherine Kent, Katie Schloss. She told me all about the genius that is Raphael Young, a shoe designer who until then I had never heard of but has been designing since childhood. Aside from his eclectic and inspiring takes on just how edgy and hard a feminine shoe silhouette can be, Young cares just as much about his customers' comfort as he does their style choices. Nothing says "buy me now" like sick looking rocker girl booties that have built in technology to make them feel as though they're not waging World War III on my feet.

Born an orphan in Seoul, Young was adopted by a family from Lyon and spent summers with his adoptive uncle, a cobbler and shoe innovator who founded the Yves Saint Laurent shoe salon in the 1950's. Having learned from footwear traditionalists who carved heels and stitched leather before they had machines to do the work, Young apprenticed with his uncle yearly and designed and carved his first heel at the ripe age of fourteen. Throughout his academic career, Young dabbled in science and engineering and thus developed an understanding of balance, density and force to pair with his childhood passions of art and design. Applying his many talents to his collection, Raphael Young is now the proud designer behind his self-titled brand based in Paris that his home to some of the highest, chicest and most comfortable shoes on the planet. The long and the short of it? Sorry Mr. Blahnik and Mr. Louboutin, but there are times where the classic doesn't tickle my fancy as much as the innovation of Mr. Kirkwood and now -

Mr. Young.

My Favorite Looks : Paris Ready To Wear SS11, Part Trois

As my blog title may suggest, I am enamored by all things French; and based on my three part Paris Fashion Week coverage, it's clear french fashion serves my need for luxury, glamour, elegance and sophistication more so than New York, London and Milan combined - and I'm a New Yorker! So, here it is - my final installment of the looks out of Paris that I loved most. While some elements of Paris reigned true, like Hannah MacGibbon of Chloé proving once again why she is one of my favorites, other design houses impressed me more than ever before. The house of McQueen has taken to celebrating the life of their namesake with a stunning collection, rather then presenting a depressing array of black notes to mourn his loss. Elie Saab, while catching celebrity attention on the red carpet never really caught mine during fashion week, but his SS11 collection tickled my fancy with notes of color and exciting neutrals. Marc Jacobs was inspired by Asia for this work with Louis Vuitton this season and mixed those oriental elements with punches of animal prints and imagery. Lastly, I took a liking to some pieces from the downtown yet feminine Vionnet and Dame Vivienne Westwood's interestingly eclectic selections.

My Favorite Looks : Paris Ready To Wear SS11, Part Deux

My post on Paris Fashion Week may have to be three parts. I have fallen in lust with these collections. I would say its love but I only plan to commit to liking them this passionately for a single season if Fall/Winter 2011 intends to be as exciting as the collections filling my inbox this season courtesy of Style.com. As per usual, Nina Ricci took lace to another level, Viktor & Rolf offered the most dramatic take on a classic and in a twist of fate, Stefano Pilati of YSL dabbled in bold color. As Stella McCartney continued to provide her followers with sartorial detailing and her take on the perfect suit, Rochas spread its wings and presented prints in innovative lengths from designer Marco Zanini. Such displays of ingenuity marked the perfect middle to what has become an epic Paris fashion week in my book.

My Favorite Looks : Paris Ready To Wear SS11, Part Une

I favor Paris based designers. There, I said it. After living in Paris for six months and having an experience so magical it forever elevated my taste in everything from champagne to fashion, I find that anything and everything this New York fashion lover appreciates about glamour and garments is rooted in Parisian fashion. Perfect detailwork, delicate tailoring and subtle colors are just a few of my favorite things - all which, to my knowledge, originated with the French. Ask Mr. Lagerfeld, Mr. Valentino, Mr. Galliano, Mr. Tisci or Mr. Elbaz - I trust they would agree with me. Since I could not narrow my Paris favorites down to just a post, and since we are still in the middle of Paris Fashion Week RTW SS11, I figured I would divide my loves de semaine into two posts - just seemed more fun that way. I look at Paris Fashion Week in a different way than the others; envisioning myself in my favorite looks of the Parisians is, in essence, envisioning me as my ideal version of myself. In my own little dream world, I go to work in Cacharel and Isabel Marant, attend rock concerts in Givenchy, become the ultimate power girl in Celine and Dries Van Noten and finish my day at a black tie affair in Lanvin. Can't blame a girl for dreaming...
